How to Add Mime types for a website in IIS

To add a MIME type in IIS webserver , open IIS using the command inetmgr , expand the websites option , and right click on the website for which you want to add the MIME type , click on the httpheaders tab , select MIME types and add the new MIME type and Extention .

How to set Write/Read permissions on the folder of a website

To set Write/read permissions on the folder of a website right click on the folder on which you want to set the permissions , click properties , select the security tab , select the users to which you need to set write/read modify permissions , check the check box read and execute , write , modify and click ok .

How to restore a MSSQL 2005 database.

To restore MSSQL 2005 Database from a backup file say data.bak which you have backed up from a database , first place the backup file in the following location
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Backup .

Then login to the MSSQL management studio using windows authentication or SQL server authentication , Expand databases in the left pane , Right click on the database which you want to restore ==> tasks ==>Restore ==>database

Then select the "from device" option and browse the path where you have copied the database backup file data.bak which is C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Backup\data.bak

Check the restore check box and click options . From the restore options select overwrite the existing database option and provide the correct path for the .mdf and .ldf files say C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\data.mdf and C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\data_log.ldf .

Click ok to restore the database and you will get a message that the restore of the database was completed successfully .

How to bakup a MSSQL 2005 database.

Hello,

To backup a mssql 2005 database login to MSSQL management studio with windows authentication or sql server authentication . Expand the databases in the left pane , right click on the database whose backup you want to take ==> tasks ==> backup ==> the source is database and destination is backup to disk ==> click ok to backup the database.

Service unavaliable Message on a website.

To solve the problem restart the IIS

1) c:/> iisreset /restart

or you can even recycle the application pool to solve the issue .

Install DNN in few easy steps

You can install DNN either in the root folder of the website or under any folder say dnn under your website .

1) Download DNN installtation zip file from DotNetNuke site and extract it under the root folder or any other folder where you want to install dnn .

2) The IUSR should have write as well as modify permission on the folder where you are installing DNN

3) Now create a MSSQL database , database user and password

4) Before browsing the website in the browser and proceeding with the installation make following changes in the web.config file to make the installation easier

Comment the 2 attach database connection strings

Note : Please note that the connection string starts with <>

a) add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Data base.mdf;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"

b) add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Data base.mdf;"

Use the following 2 connection strings

a) add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=IP of the database server;Database=databasename;uid=databaseuser;pwd= password;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"

b) add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=IP of database server;Database=databasename;uid=databaseuser;pwd= password;"

5) Now browse the website and select auto installation and click next , DNN will be installed on the website .

Start/stop IIS from command prompt

Here are some commands to start stop IIS from command prompt.

C:\>net start w3svc , starts the world wide web service
C:\>net start msftpsvc , starts the ftp service
C:\>net start smtpsvc , starts the smtp service
C:\>net Start HTTPFilter
C:\>iisreset /restart , stops and starts all the services.
